WebRTC Potential for Edge Computing Scenarios Recently, WebRTC has a lot of eyes from market. The use cases of WebRTC are expanding - video chat, online education, online health care etc. Not only for human-to-human communication, but also IoT use cases such as machine to human use cases can be seen recently. One of the typical use-case is remote camera monitoring. With WebRTC, people can have interoperability and flexibility for deploying monitoring service. However, the benefit of WebRTC for IoT is not only its convenience and interoperability. It has lots of potential to address current issues around IoT - security, connectivity and so on - based on P2P technology. It will become a key-component especially in edge computing use cases, in his view. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Kensaku Komatsu, a research and development engineer at NTT Communications, will provi... (more)

[session] Extend User Experience of WebRTC | @ThingsExpo #IoT #M2M #RTC #WebRTC

Extend User Experience of WebRTC with Unique Sensor Devices WebRTC is great technology to build your own communication tools. It will be even more exciting experience it with advanced devices, such as a 360 Camera, 360 microphone, and a depth sensor camera. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Masashi Ganeko, a manager at INFOCOM Corporation, will introduce two experimental projects from his team and what they learned from them. "Shotoku Tamago" uses the robot audition software HARK to track speakers in 360 video of a remote party. "Virtual Teleport" uses a multiple Intel RealSense Depth Camera to scan 3D and build 3D models in real-time, and display as hologram in front of remote participants. Speaker Bio After 20 years of experience for developing enterprise system and consumer web service, Masashi Ganeko is leading a technology research team of INFOCOM, the software co... (more)

Beyond Audio and Video: #WebRTC | @ThingsExpo #IoT Java #RTC #Telecom

WebRTC Beyond Audio and Video WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of "data" has been limited to text chat and file download - all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, looked at different existing uses of peer-to-peer data sharing and how it can become useful in a live session to enable richer collaboration using WebRTC and HTML5. [slides] #WebRTC Reborn | @CloudExpo @Dan_Jenkins #IoT #RTC #USaaS

WebRTC Reborn Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong. Those in the industry have been working hard to sweeten the deal again - efforts have been made to bring WebRTC into the mainstream and as a result the technology is experiencing a rebirth. Thanks to those who have remained dedicated to improving the situation for those around them, WebRTC is finally starting to fulfill the original expectations that were had of it. Both the technolo... Matrix' #WebRTC and #IoT | @ThingsExpo @MatrixDotOrg #AI #RTC #UCaaS

Matrix is an ambitious new open standard for open, distributed, real-time communication over IP. It defines a new approach for interoperable Instant Messaging and VoIP based on pragmatic HTTP APIs and WebRTC, and provides open source reference implementations to showcase and bootstrap the new standard. Matrix.org's focus is on simplicity, security, and supporting the fullest feature set. For more information, visit http://matrix.org/. Matrix: The Missing Signaling Layer for WebRTC? WebRTC defines no default signaling protocol, causing fragmentation between WebRTC silos. SIP and XMPP provide possibilities, but come with considerable complexity and are not designed for use in a web environment. In his session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Matthew Hodgson, technical co-founder of the Matrix.org, will discuss how Matrix is a new non-profit Open Source Project that define... (more)

Business Models of #WebRTC | @CloudExpo @Twilio #IoT #RTC #AI #ML

WebRTC Business Models Beyond Video Conferencing Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here WebRTC services have already permeated corporate communications in the form of videoconferencing solutions. However, WebRTC has the potential of going beyond and catalyzing a new class of services providing more than calls with capabilities such as mass-scale real-time media broadcasting, enriched and augmented video, person-to-machine and machine-to-machine communications. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Luis Lopez, CEO of Kurento, introduced the technologies required for implementing these ideas and some early experiments performed in the Kurento open source software community in areas such as entertainment, video surveillance, interactive media broadcasting, gaming or advertising. He concluded with a discussion of their potential business applications beyond plain call models. Download... (more)
