Five Reasons to Move Real-Time Communications into the Cloud There are some enterprise applications that were born to be in the cloud. Customer relationship management (CRM) applications were an early favorite because salespeople (the primary consumers of CRM) are decentralized and mobile. Web applications and personal data storage are also ideal cloud applications because they allow enterprises to scale up easily while driving down costs. Enterprises have held on to their communications, however, making it one of the last applications to move into the cloud. Enterprises are now waking up to the fact that some people were born to use the cloud - specifically, those born in the 1980s and known as millennials. Millennials will soon make up more than half of the U.S. workforce and, for them, mobility and decentralization aren't the exception, they're the rule. As emplo... (more)

Signaling Layer for #WebRTC and #IoT | @ThingsExpo #M2M #AI #RTC #UCaaS

Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here WebRTC defines no default signaling protocol, causing fragmentation between WebRTC silos. SIP and XMPP provide possibilities, but come with considerable complexity and are not designed for use in a web environment. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Matthew Hodgson, technical co-founder of the Matrix.org, discussed how Matrix is a new non-profit Open Source Project that defines both a new HTTP-based standard for VoIP & IM signaling and provides reference implementations. Matrix is an ambitious new open standard for open, distributed, real-time communication over IP. It defines a new approach for interoperable Instant Messaging and VoIP based on pragmatic HTTP APIs and WebRTC, and provides open source reference implementations to showcase and bootstrap the new standard. [session] #WebRTC for the #IoT | @CloudExpo @MontesLu #RTC #ML #M2M

Leveraging WebRTC for the Internet of Things Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels. With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way. In his session at WebRTC Summit, Luis Montes, founder and CEO of Iced Development, will discuss in some detail how we can build web apps like this today. Speaker Bio Luis Montes is the founder and CEO of Iced Development. He brings 18 years of medical, manufacturing, and financial enterprise software experience. Iced Development is a Phoenix b... In his keynote at @ThingsExpo, Chris Matthieu, Director of IoT Engineering at Citrix and co-founder and CTO of Octoblu, focused on building an IoT platform and company. He provided a behind-the-scenes look at Octoblu's platform, business, and pivots along the way (including the Citrix acquisition of Octoblu). Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here Speaker Bio: Chris Matthieu is the co-founder and CTO of Octoblu, a revolutionary real-time IoT platform recently acquired by Citrix. Octoblu connects things, systems, people and clouds to a global mesh network allowing users to automate and control design flows, processes and sensor data, and analyze/react to real-time events and messages as well as big data trends and anomalies. Prior to co-founding Octoblu, Chris was the founder of Nodester, an open-source Node.JS PaaS which was acquired by AppFog and the founder of Teleku,... (more)

Identity in Communication | @CloudExpo @BKlang #IoT #M2M #RTC #WebRTC

Who Are You, and Why Does It Matter? Issues Around Identity in Communication Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here Who are you? How do you introduce yourself? Do you use a name, or do you greet a friend by the last four digits of his social security number? Assuming you don't, why are we content to associate our identity with 10 random digits assigned by our phone company? Identity is an issue that affects everyone, but as individuals we don't spend a lot of time thinking about it. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Ben Klang, Founder & President of Mojo Lingo, discussed the impact of technology on identity. Should we federate, or not? How should identity be secured? Who owns the identity? How is identity created, addressed, and shared? Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here Speaker Bio Ben Klang has been fascinated with communication technology since before he can remember. He is the fo... (more)

Testing #WebRTC Services | @CloudExpo @Tsahil #Telecom #ML #RTC #UCaaS

Overcoming the Challenges in Testing WebRTC Services WebRTC sits at the intersection between VoIP and the Web. As such, it poses some interesting challenges for those developing services on top of it, but also for those who need to test and monitor these services. In his session at WebRTC Summit, Tsahi Levent-Levi, co-founder of testRTC, reviewed the various challenges posed by WebRTC when it comes to testing and monitoring and on ways to overcome them. Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here Speaker Bio Tsahi Levent-Levi is co-founder of testRTC, a WebRTC testing and monitoring company, as well as an independent analyst and consultant for WebRTC. [slides] #WebRTC Reborn | @CloudExpo @Dan_Jenkins #IoT #RTC #USaaS

WebRTC Reborn Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong. Those in the industry have been working hard to sweeten the deal again - efforts have been made to bring WebRTC into the mainstream and as a result the technology is experiencing a rebirth. Thanks to those who have remained dedicated to improving the situation for those around them, WebRTC is finally starting to fulfill the original expectations that were had of it. Both the technolo... Beyond Audio and Video: #WebRTC | @ThingsExpo #IoT Java #RTC #Telecom

WebRTC Beyond Audio and Video WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of "data" has been limited to text chat and file download - all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, looked at different existing uses of peer-to-peer data sharing and how it can become useful in a live session to enable richer collaboration using WebRTC and HTML5.
