How can we bring this analog infrastructure into our shiny new cloud applications? There are proven methods to bind both legacy voice applications and traditional PSTN audio into cloud-based applications and services at a carrier scale. Some of the most successful implementations leverage WebRTC, WebSockets, SIP and other open source technologies. WebRTC and #IoT with @MatrixDotOrg | @ThingExpo #RTC #UCaaS #WebRTC

Matrix is an ambitious new open standard for open, distributed, real-time communication over IP. It defines a new approach for interoperable Instant Messaging and VoIP based on pragmatic HTTP APIs and WebRTC, and provides open source reference implementations to showcase and bootstrap the new standard. Matrix.org's focus is on simplicity, security, and supporting the fullest feature set. For more information, visit http://matrix.org/. Matrix: The Missing Signaling Layer for WebRTC? WebRTC defines no default signaling protocol, causing fragmentation between WebRTC silos. SIP and XMPP provide possibilities, but come with considerable complexity and are not designed for use in a web environment. In his session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Matthew Hodgson, technical co-founder of the Matrix.org, will discuss how Matrix is a new non-profit Open Source Project that define... (more)

WebRTC Reborn Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong. Those in the industry have been working hard to sweeten the deal again - efforts have been made to bring WebRTC into the mainstream and as a result the technology is experiencing a rebirth. Thanks to those who have remained dedicated to improving the situation for those around them, WebRTC is finally starting to fulfill the original expectations that were had of it. Both the technolo... IoT ID Management and #WebRTC | @ThingsExpo #IoT #M2M #RTC #UCaaS

Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here We are reaching the end of the beginning with WebRTC, and real systems using this technology have begun to appear. One challenge that faces every WebRTC deployment (in some form or another) is identity management. For example, if you have an existing service - possibly built on a variety of different PaaS/SaaS offerings - and you want to add real-time communications you are faced with a challenge relating to user management, authentication, authorization, and validation. Service providers will want to use their existing identities, but these will have credentials already that are (hopefully) irreversibly encoded. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Peter Dunkley, Technical Director at Acision, looked at how this identity problem can be solved and discussed ways to use existing web identities for real-time communication. WebRTC, #IoT and #API Gateways | @ThingsExpo #UCaaS #RTC #WebRTC

Defining Web 3.0 and Developing the Fastest Enterprise Mobility Apps I value a strong opinion.  Especially when the opinionated is an expert and willing to stand up and place a flag in the sand.  In this article, my ambitious friend, programming guru, gamer, colleague, bona fide geek and mobility expert Peter Rogers shares his opinions on the meaning of Web 3.0 and how it will impact mobile application development and the enterprise.  While he is English and prone to use words like whilst, that should not be held against him. I have two ambitions in life: to be the first person to define Web 3.0 in a meaningful way; and to be able to reform Atomic Kitten to sing at my next birthday. Only one of these is achievable so here goes. The Web is changing quite drastically and there are ten key factors that define the next "Web" hereafter as Web 3.0: The dropping of legacy b... (more)
